T h e AV X S t o r y
The AVX was created in 1997 through a
collaboration between Pennsylvania Avanti
enthusiast Jim Bunting and Avanti designer
Thomas Kellogg, together with custom
car building Bill Lang. This was to be a
continuation and upgrade from the Avanti—
last built at the time in 1990.
There were plans originally to build up to a
dozen AVX automobiles. Only three were
built before production came to a standstill.
During that time, Lang’s business which
built the AVX, was the only automobile
manufacturer in the state of Pennsylvania.
In an exclusive interview with company
creator Jim Bunting and builder Bill Lang,
Avanti Magazine takes a look at what
went into the building of each car and the
similarities and differences between each
AVX—a coupe, t-top, and convertible.
